3-18-22 THOUGHTS
Chapter 14 of John’s Gospel starts a three chapter discussion where Jesus comforts his disciples that will become apostles. The WORD has become flesh, and God has spoken unto us by His Son, and has borne witness to Him through signs and wonders and different miracles. Now the Son of God must die and return to the Father. He leaves a Spirit Comforted group to continue the revelation that is to become God’s Word, “the perfect law of liberty” The ASSURANCE statements below are wonderful! “I go to prepare”, “I will come again”, “I am the way, truth and life”, “He who has seen me has seen the Father”. Jesus closes this section with “the Father abiding in me does His works.” It’s all about them (and us) believing in Jesus, God’s Son!
John 14:1-11 "Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 "In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. 3 "If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. 4 "And you know the way where I am going." 5 Thomas said to Him, "Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?" 6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. 7 "If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him." 8 Philip said to Him, "Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us." 9 Jesus said to him, "Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 "Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works. 11 "Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise believe because of the works themselves.
John 5:36 "But the testimony which I have is greater than [the testimony of] John [the baptist]; for the works which the Father has given Me to accomplish — the very works that I do — testify about Me, that the Father has sent Me.
Heb 2:1-4 For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away from it. 2 For if the word spoken through angels proved unalterable, and every transgression and disobedience received a just penalty, 3 how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard, 4 God also testifying with them, both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will.
My Prayer:
Father, help us to pay close attention to your words to keep us from drifting dangerously. Each day, O God, help us to find the way, the truth and the life. Put it in our hearts and minds that we may walk closer to You. We wish to abide in Your presence, O Lord. Help our unbelief. We need you every hour! In the name of Jesus, Amen.
